Sasso Marconi
Azienda Agricola I Cappucci is situated in Borgonuovo, within the municipality of Sasso Marconi.
Sasso Marconi takes its name from the medieval place name of the cliff (Sasso di Glosina), which rises at the confluence of the Reno and Setta rivers, and from Guglielmo Marconi, the scientist who invented wireless telegraphy.
Numerous prehistoric human settlements have been found in this area, a point of passage and connection between the Apennine and Piedmontese regions.
Of note are Etruscan period testimonies (the grave goods from some tombs are now preserved in the Marzabotto Museum) and Roman ones (the aqueduct, excavated in the last years of the 1st century BC at the confluence of the Reno and Setta rivers to bring drinking water to Bologna, is still functional in some sections).
Throughout the communal age, the territory remained divided into various parts (the Bolognese bishopric, the fief of Panico, the countryside). Only with the lordship of the Bentivoglio did the most prosperous period begin: the city opened up to the countryside, and the first stately homes of the aristocracy began to rise, followed by those of the town's bourgeoisie.
Artistic life in the following centuries will also be particularly vibrant thanks to the presence of important figures such as Francesco Albani, Mastelletta, and Claudio Achillini.
During the Napoleonic era, the Municipality of “Praduro e Sasso” was created, and by 1828, its territorial configuration was practically the same as it is today.
The last world conflict saw extensive damage to the built heritage and a further number of casualties among the population.
Rapid reconstruction and strong industrial and urban development along the Porrettana road characterise the following decades. Although the progressive abandonment of the countryside and agricultural work has profoundly changed the socio-economic fabric of the population, the local community has always paid careful attention to growth that did not erase the identity of the places and the peculiar characteristics of the people “of the Sasso”.
Given the municipality's particular agricultural vocation, made famous by the production of DOC wines from the Colli Bolognesi, the Marconian Hill micro-regions, wines of high quality, with an enological tradition connected to environmental, historical, and cultural values, of considerable economic importance, and noting that the aims of promoting wine in its territory of origin align with the municipality's economic and tourism development needs, the Municipal Council, by resolution no. 38 of 19/04/1999, approved adherence to the “National Association of Wine Cities”.
